We hope you will join us for the official welcome address and reception evening. You
will sample a taste of the Moroccan music and culture. You will hear some brief
welcome presentations from dignitaries, students, and the Conference Chairing
Group. You will have an opportunity to network and find out more about the
conference aims, structure and organisation. Light refreshments will be provided and
delegates will be encouraged to ‘meet and eat’ together after the event, at some
local venues. Transport will leave from the Anenzi Tower hotel at 4.30. and depart
from the venue at 7.15 p.m, to the main tourist area and the hotel. The registration
desk will be open. No ticket is required for this event, which is open to delegates and
families.

Professor of Education at the University of Glasgow (UK)
Mel Ainscow is a Professor of Education at the University of Glasgow. He is also Emeritus Professor at the University of Manchester and an Adjunct Professor at Queensland University of Technology. A long-term consultant to UNESCO, Mel is internationally recognized as an authority on the promotion of inclusion and equity in education. He recently led the development of a series of policy documents for UNESCO, including its ‘Guide for Ensuring Inclusion and Equity in Education’. Mel is also a consultant to an initiative organized by the Organization of American States, supporting national developments in nine Latin American countries. He has recently completed collaborative research projects with networks of schools in Australia and five European countries. Examples of his writing can be found in: ‘Struggles for equity in education: the selected works of Mel Ainscow’, (Routledge World Library of Educationalists series). In recognition of his outstanding commitment to the advancement of equity in education, Mel was made a Commander of the British Empire in the Queen’s 2012 New Year Honours list.
Head of Department for the Institute for Open and Distance Learning at Unisa
Sindile Amina Ngubane-Mokiwa is an Associate Professor and Head of Department for the Institute for Open and Distance Learning at Unisa, which is the largest open and distance learning University in Southern Africa. Sindile’s specialist research is in the field of information and communication technologies, particularly pertaining to disability and accessibility in higher education. She is the former Deputy Director at the Advocacy and Resource Centre for Students with Disabilities and has also served as a specialist in the Curriculum Transformation Unit. Her other distinguished roles have included acting as Deputy Chairperson of Unisa Women’s Forum. Sindile has published academic papers and book chapters as well as presenting at numerous international and national conferences. She currently leads cross-border collaborative research and community engagement projects aimed at empowering vulnerable communities, including people with disabilities, women, children and the elderly. Sindile is currently leading a notable community project titled ‘MarginsToTheCentre,’ which provides support for people on the margins with the aim of creating sustainable and safe communities.
Vice President of L'Université Bordeaux Montaigne (France)
Soufiane Rouissi is Vice President of L'Université Bordeaux Montaigne (France) with responsibility for technology and digital education. He is also Head of the Master’s Degree Programme “Dispositifs numériques éducatifs” (Digital devices for learning) at the Institute of Information Science and Communication and L'Université Bordeaux Montaigne. He holds a PhD in information science and communication and is a recognised leader of research in the field of technologies, particularly in the application of digital devices for e-learning in higher education. Soufiane actively contributes to knowledge in the field by writing book chapters and journal articles and editing books pertaining to learning in a digital environment. He contributes to several scientific committees responsible for organising international conferences and publishing scientific journals. He has a track record as a leader and advisor for innovation in transnational collaboration and project management.
Professor at Rutgers University-Newark
Timothy K. Eatman, Ph.D is an educational sociologist who serves as Inaugural Dean of the Honors Living - Learning Community and Professor at Rutgers University-Newark. Over his thirty-year career in academe, Tim’s research has centred on equity issues in higher education and on advancing understandings about publicly engaged scholarship in the university of the 21st century. His work has been widely recognized, manifested in part by his holding of several national and international leadership positions. Tim is Faculty Director Emeritus of Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life, and Chair Emeritus of the International Association for Research on Service Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE). Tim also serves as membership chair for the American Association of Colleges (AAC&U) and he acts as the National co-chair for Urban Research Based Action (URBAN). Tim is a member of the National Advisory Committee for the Carnegie Engagement Classification for Community Engagement. He maintains an active research agenda having written several book chapters, journal articles, and research reports, including the widely cited Scholarship in Public: Knowledge Creation and Tenure Policy in the Engaged University. Tim is co-editor of The Cambridge Handbook of Service Learning and Community Engagement.
